The Spirits of Hurufs

(The Spirits of Letters).

-—————

This artwork features 7 letters (hurufs) of Arabic Thuluth alphabet representing: Aleef, Ba, Jeem, Dal, Hah, Wau & Zaiy. These 7 letters are part of an Arabic alphabetic arrangement known as the Abjadiyah order, which is a different version to Hijaiyah order. The Abjadiyah order is an early system of Arabic alphabet which includes numerical values or gematrical system. In this artwork, this order represents the number values: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

The swash movement in this artwork is a spiritual representation on the blowing birth of letters appearing in every moment of spoken and written action occurred. It represents the spiritual life force (ruh) that drives the values of speech and scripts.
